Francis MacKenzie

CEO

President and Director of Grand River Ironsands since 2007; a company whose majority shareholder is Metalo Manufacturing Inc. (CSE:MMI) of which Mr. MacKenzie is also the President.

Mr. MacKenzie is a builder and leader of public companies, and has operated several businesses.

He was a senior official in municipal and provincial governments in economic development roles, including heading up Investment and Trade for the Province of Nova Scotia.  He was Leader of a provincial political party.  

He has raised over $40 million for companies he has been involved over the past 15 years and remains active in capital raising and financial markets.  

He holds an EMBA ('92) from Saint Mary's University and a BBA from St. Francis Xavier University

Bradley Doig

President

Bradley Doig is the COO and a Director of Petmin Limited (Petmin).
Mr. Doig has 27 years of mining experience and was appointed a non-executive director of Petmin from November 30, 2005, becoming Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director in February, 2006. He was instrumental in forming the Petmin of today, which had one employee in 2005, and now has over 1000, and is South Africa’s largest Anthracite Producer.

Mr. Doig was previously an executive director and Chief investment officer of Decorum Capital partners, the fund manager for the New Africa Mining Fund (NAMF) where he raised $100M for private equity investment into Junior Mining Companies.

During a 10-year stint with BHP Billiton Ltd, Mr. Doig's experience included international business development and strategy for Samancor Manganese. He also spent time at merchant bank, Dresdner Kleinwort Benson, in the UK and was a group executive of the consulting company , IQ Business group. 

Kevin Kemper

VP Finance & Business Development

Kevin Kemper has 7+ years of experience as an investment banker advising and financing metals/mining companies.

Mr Kemper was most recently Vice President in Rothschild’s North American mining group with an emphasis on arranging project financing for greenfield projects and M&A advisory. 

His experience includes advising:

         - Grand River Ironsands on forming a project JV for its integrated pig iron project with Petmin Ltd

         - Antofagasta on the financing of its US$1.7bn Antucoya copper project in Chile

         - Kinross Gold on its US$7.1bn acquisition of Red Back Mining

         - Victoria Gold Corp on the project financing for its US$500m Eagle gold project

Steve Miller

VP Marketing

Steve Miller has worked in the ferrous raw materials business for over 30 years.

Mr. Miller is the former Managing Director of Stemcor USA's Ferrosource Division; he founded Ferrosource in 1994; in 1997, Ferrosource became the US agent for sales of pig iron produced at Russia's JSC Tulachermet; in 2001, Ferrosource became a distributor of all grades of pig iron, serving the US foundry industry, as well as steelmakers; in 2004, Ferrosource entered into a JV with Stemcor USA Inc. for pig iron distribution in North America, which culminated in the acquisition of Ferrosource by Stemcor in 2008.

After serving in the US Marine Corps, Mr. Miller received a B.S. in Business from the University of Colorado in 1976.  Shortly after graduation he started his metals career with the scrap brokerage firm, Luria Bros, as a ferrous scrap trader.

In 1983, he became district manager for Pittsburgh-based Mindlin Co., and from 1988-1994 Mr. Miller worked in several positions within the scrap brokerage industry.

Technical Team

Chris McKinney

Director of Projects

Chris McKinney has over 20 years working in the steel and metals industry, most recently with Tenova, as well as Midrex and North American Refractories.  Mr. McKinney has eight years in charge of turnkey installation at Tenova, commissioning metals producing furnaces. 

Mr. McKinney has been the Project or Site Manager for the installation and commissioning of, among other projects: (1) EAF and material handling system for Gerdau in Peru (2) Two walking beam furnaces for Hyundai in South Korea (3) Nucor’s Nu Iron DRI plant in Trinidad (4) Midrex’s DRI facility for LGOK in Russia.  He has participated in the installation, construction and/or operation of over 30 steel and metallic plants worldwide. 

Chris McKinney is the Project Manager for NAIC’s pig iron project, and the ongoing feasibility studies and technical work.

Bill O’Connor

Director of Research and Development

Bill O’Connor has 25 years at the U.S. Bureau of Mines and Department of Energy, conducting pyro-metallurgical research.  Mr. O’Connor developed the process design for electric furnace smelting of a wide range of materials, including the production of pig iron from iron bearing ores. 

Bill O’Connor is in charge of NAIC’s test programs and operating NAIC’s test furnaces.  He works with equipment suppliers and technical consultants to determine process input requirements and design – this includes raw material composition and consumption, electrical consumption, and chemistry of end product.
